African Drumming Workshop

February 20, 2012 in Group news by maddiezahatter

Hey :)

I just wanted to give you a flavour of what we did in January!  We were really lucky to be able to get a Workshop with Sarah Westwood from Drum Voice (http://www.drumvoice.co.uk) on 4th January.  We had an excellent turnout of 21(!) people and everyone agreed it was a great night.

Some of the comments we had on the workshop were:

“The drumming was one of the best things i have ever done.”
“Splendid! Powerful, exciting and very healing.”
“I thought it was great, I agree with ***** that it was therapeutic and I found it quite liberating!”
“It was lovely to work with the drums – I discovered I’m not as bad as I thought with rhythmns!  Trying new things is always good, and every time I do it I feel more confident about the next time.”

Wolverhampton Police Consultation – Proposed changes to station opening hours

December 15, 2011 in consultation by maddiezahatter

Wolverhampton  Police are facing significant budget constraints, and are looking at reducing the opening hours of some local stations.  Below is information from them on the proposed changes.  They are looking for feedback on the plans from the community – please respond if these plans will impact on you!

To clarify, under the proposals, 11 front offices will remain open 24/7, 21 will open between 10am-6pm daily, one will be open 8am-8pm daily and a further 22 will remain open to the public at other times, dependent on local needs( Wednesfield will change from 24/7 to 1000-1800 ).

In total, we will continue to provide 65 front offices open to the public; a service to local communities far wider than most other police forces offer across the country.

Under the new arrangements, households will be within four miles from a 24/7 police station across the region.

POLICE CONTINUE TO INVITE FEEDBACK ON PROPOSED CHANGES TO FRONT OFFICES OPENING TIMES

West Midlands Police is continuing to ask for feedback on its proposals to change the opening hours of some police station front offices.

The force is proposing changes to the opening hours of 12 front offices:

Front Office LPU Current opening proposed opening
Halesowen Dudley 24/7 1000×1800
Dudley Dudley 0700×2200 1000×1800
Stourbridge Dudley 24/7 1000×1800
Aston Bham West & Central 24/7 1000×1800
Handsworth Bham West & Central 24/7 0800×2000
Harborne Bham South 24/7 1000×1800
Wednesfield Wolverhampton 24/7 1000×1800
Chelmsley Wood Solihull 0700×2200 1000×1800
Foleshill Coventry 0700×2200 1000×1800
Willenhall (CV) Coventry 24/7 1000×1800
Kings Heath Bham East 24/7 1000×1800
Bloxwich Walsall 24/7 1000×1800

Proposing to change the operating hours of some front offices does NOT mean that we will be reducing the service we provide to communities.

Officers will continue to work within communities, patrol neighbourhoods and work with local people and partners to identify and solve issues of concern.

Officers will still work from those police stations and will continue to work from them during the hours overnight when their front office is not open.

People can email their views via contactus@west-midlands.police.uk, or write to West Midlands Police, Lloyd House, Colmore Circus, Queensway, B4 6NQ.

People are able to give feedback until the 15 January 2012. People can also provide feedback at PACT meetings and other Police Community Consultation events.

The proposed alteration to opening times comes at a time when the force needs to review and rationalise its services as part of its modernisation programme, amid a backdrop where it has to save £126 million over a four year period.

The suggested amendment to opening hours will not impact on the way the force works within its local communities.  Officers will continue to work within communities, patrol neighbourhoods and work with local people and partners to identify and solve issues of concern.

People are able to continue to give feedback until Sunday 15 January. After that date we will consider all feedback balanced against the results of the demand analysis in order to be able to make a final decision.”

“Our priority is to ensure that we provide a service that is right for the people we serve and not just continue working, without question, in a particular way because it’s the way we always have.

“I want to reassure people that nothing is changing to where officers work from and that these proposed changes will not impact on the way we work with local communities. This is about modernising contact and responding to match the service we deliver to how people in reality choose to access it.”

People can also contribute to the debate on twitter @wmpolice.
